OTOBO 11.1 & AI: Brief Overview for IT Teams

OTOBO 11.1 (in beta since June 2026) bundles many previous add-on packages into the core and lays the foundation for native AI features under the name Roboto. For admins evaluating OTOBO or planning an upgrade, the main changes are: fewer extra packages, stronger Elasticsearch integration, and a clear AI path with a focus on data sovereignty.

Key New Features at a Glance

AreaWhat's NewRelevance for Admins
Ticket HandlingExtended Elasticsearch syntax, similar tickets widget, edit/resolve/pin articles in coreLess manual searching, faster escalation
Process ManagementNamespaces, global vs. local, extended transition logicComplex workflows are easier to maintain
IntegrationOAuth token management, OpenID Connect SSO, multipart/form-data for web servicesJIRA/OpenProject integration without workarounds
AI (Roboto)Suggested responses from local vector database, AI dashboard, Ollama, or hosted German serverOn-premise AI without US cloud dependency

AI: Roboto Instead of SaaS Add-on

Rother OSS positions Roboto as a native OTOBO add-on: tickets, FAQs, and documentation are indexed in a ChromaDB vector database. Agents receive drafted responses directly inside the ticket — optionally via Ollama on-premise or a GDPR-compliant server in Germany (beta).

This is what sets OTOBO apart from purely cloud-based AI helpdesks: your infrastructure remains under your control.

Upgrade Notes (Brief)

  • The MailAccountOAuth2 mechanism has been moved into the core — check this during the upgrade.
  • Docker installations partially switch from Redis to the file system cache.
  • OTOBO and OTOBO Docker have independent release cycles starting from version 11.1.
