Zammad LDAP Sync

by it@M (Landeshauptstadt München)company

A Java-based synchronization tool to import complex LDAP organizational structures and users into Zammad groups and roles.

The Zammad LDAP Sync tool, developed by IT@M (City of Munich), addresses a specific limitation of Zammad's native LDAP integration: the ability to automatically create and maintain a hierarchical group structure in Zammad based on LDAP organizational units (OUs). While the built-in integration focuses on user authentication and role mapping, this Java-based service (built with Spring Boot) iterates through both the user and organizational structures in LDAP. It creates Zammad groups corresponding to LDAP OUs and maps users to these groups using LDAP attributes. This ensures that the organizational structure in the ticket system always reflects the current state of the directory service.

Features

  • Hierarchical Group Sync

Automatically creates and updates Zammad groups based on LDAP organizational units.

  • Advanced User Mapping

Links users to groups using specific LDAP reference attributes, supporting complex directory structures.

  • REST API Powered

Performs all operations via Zammad's standard REST API, requiring no direct database access.

  • Service-Ready

Designed as a Spring Boot application that can be easily deployed as a background service or within a containerized environment.
